But if you can start to fill up your schedule with things that bring you joy, then it will be much easier to not fixate on your ex. If you keep your mind occupied, there won’t be room for the thoughts about your ex boyfriend or girlfriend.
The importance of space and time when you want to be strong after a breakup
Whatever decision you make, whether your goal is to get back together with this person or to move on, it’s all going to start with space and time. You have to put distance between you and your ex-partner in order to start becoming stronger. When you are constantly faced with reminders of your relationship and the fact that you are no longer together, it is going to make the process that much more difficult.
This is why we recommend the no contact rule to our clients who are hoping to get back together, but space is going to help you no matter what your goal may be.It is tempting to want to reach out and talk to or see your ex, in an attempt to get that feeling of reassurance, but this is not going to help your process.

Interestingly enough, perhaps the best way to feel mentally strong after a breakup is to work on feeling physically strong as well.
I encourage you to get active, go to the gym, switch up your workout routine, starting out in different classes or activities… Think about what kind of new forms of physical exercise you can try. There is yoga, boxing, rock climbing, salsa dancing, cycling, swimming… the list goes on and on!
Not only will you begin to feel stronger after the break up, physical exercise will begin to boost your self-confidence as well as your energy levels. The more energy you have, the more likely you will be to want to take matters into your own hands and come out on top after this break up.
How to be strong minded after breakup: Introducing new elements into your life
When a break up takes place, it can feel like literally everything around you reminds you of your ex. So I recommend switching up your environment! Start with your living space and pack up anything that makes you think about your ex. It is your decision whether or not you want to throw the box away or just put it in storage, but the goal is to get these things out of sight so that they will be out of mind.
Then think about how you could reorganize your living space to make it feel fresh. You could move your furniture around or you could go even further and opt for a new coat of paint, get new bedsheets or re-upholsterer your furniture in a different fabric… there are so many things you could do make your surroundings feel new.
You can apply this concept to your office and any other space that you spend a lot of time in.
