The best things to do after a breakup

First things first, when it comes to what to do after a breakup, the worst thing you can do is sit around in isolation, feeling sorry for yourself. Yes, this hurts and the situation is awful, but it’s only temporary. In fact, the length of time that this period is going to last will depend directly on how quickly you take action.

And you already have! Hats off to you because you’ve already gone out of your way to find an article that will help you to move forward. Whether your goal is to get back together with your ex or not, the tips and tools you’re going to find in this article are going to help you reach your goal!

So without further ado, let’s take a look at what to do after a bad breakup.

Things to do after a breakup #1: Physical exercise

Right now, you are probably swimming in all kinds of emotions that range from heartbreak, sadness and anger, to confusion and hopelessness. These feelings are only going to amplify if you let them, which is why I stress the importance of avoiding sitting around at home, watching Netflix and feeling terrible.

Getting physically active is one of the absolute best things you could be doing right now. Not only is going to help you to feel more confident because you’ll be taking care of your body and mind, it’s going to release endorphins (the feel good hormone) and it’s going to give you more energy and help you to sleep better at night. The result will be an improved mood, and more energy that you can use towards improving the current situation.

So if you don’t already, I highly recommend going out for an intense run. And I mean intense! Run until your heart is pounding and you’re sweating. Physical exertion helps your body to detox physically and mentally. You can clear your mind and feel stronger.

In addition to this, I encourage you to start hitting the gym or take group workout classes. Yoga is a powerful tool for clearing your mind and healing. Try to think about things you’ve never done before but always wanted to try. What about salsa dancing? Rock climbing?

What to do after a breakup #2: Switch up your environment

There are probably things all around your living space right now that remind you of your ex, right? It’s normal that everything would remind you of him or her, especially if the breakup is still fresh.

That said, one of the best things to do post breakup is to really change up your environment. Box up things that belonged to your ex and the things that you received from them. It’s up to you whether or not you want to throw them out. Right now, we are prioritizing the “Out of sight, out of mind” concept. overcoming breakup

Change the layout of your furniture and if you’re up for it, you could even paint your walls a different color. A lot can be said for giving yourself a new environment. The feeling of freshness is powerful, especially when you’re wondering about what to do after a hard breakup.

Think about other little details like getting new bed sheets for example.

What to do after a breakup with a boyfriend or girlfriend #3: Write it all out

Because you’re experiencing so many emotions right now, it can be very beneficial to put them all down on paper. It’s tempting to say all of these things to your ex, but I’m going to go over why that isn’t such a great idea in a moment – especially if you’re trying to win him or her back.

Journaling is a powerful tool for clearing your mind. It can also help you to organize your thoughts if you feel like they’ve been all over the place lately.

One of the things I recommend doing is writing down what you want to say to your ex on a piece of paper and then ripping it up and throwing it away. It can be a cathartic and therapeutic experience that can help keep you from reaching out to an ex when the time is not right.

#4: Do not act clingy or needy after a breakup!

This is especially important if you’re hoping to get back together! Along with moping and feeling sorry for yourself, this is one of the worst things you could be doing post breakup.

Even through your heart is broken and you want to feel the reassurance of having your ex close to you, it’s crucial that you fight against this. They were your comfort zone for a long time and now you’re being forced out of it, but if you act needy or clingy, or worse still, desperate, towards this person, you can seriously damage the odds of you getting back together.

If you feel tempted to call your ex, call your best friend instead. If you want to text your ex, write down your thoughts on a piece of paper instead. Then get outside and do something active to clear your mind!

Best things to do after a breakup #5: Pick up old hobbies

If a person has been in this relationship for a while, it’s not uncommon for them to lose track of their hobbies and passions as the relationship began to take up more space in their lives.

#6: Introduce new things into your life

As I was saying above, now is the time to start bringing new things into your life. Think about what kinds of things you could try out on your own and with your group of friends. Challenge yourself to check out a new place each week, whether it’s a restaurant, a gallery, a bar, or even a class. forget an ex

It’s one of the best ways to feel better after a breakup. Make a point of exploring your city and you can even plan weekend getaways.

The key here is to always be busy and to avoid giving yourself time to wallow. Sure, the negative emotions are going to surge up from time to time, but you are in control of how much you let them control your life.

What to do for yourself after a breakup when you want an ex back

The point of all the of activities I mentioned above is to help you get out of this rut and to start becoming the new and improved version of yourself. If you want your ex back, he or she is going to have to see that this breakup has served a purpose and has allowed you to become the 2.0 version of the person he or she fell in love with in the first place.
